Trio dos Anciões was founded in February 2020 by Floris van Elderen, inspired by the Brazilian Samba-Jazz trios from the 1960’s. Trio dos Anciões wants to preserve the raw energy and dynamics of yesteryear while striving for a contemporary sound using electric instrumentation.
Improvisations based on (Afro-)Brazilian traditions // The Milton Banana Trio and the Zimbo Trio were Floris van Elderen's first major sources of inspiration to delve into the extensive tradition of Brazilian music and get to the root of it as much as possible.
In the arrangements, the trio tries to incorporate traditional Brazilian rhythmic elements as templates for improvisation, borrowed from (Afro-)Brazilian traditions such as Samba, Forró, Maracatu, Jongo and Ijexá.
